Regional Commissioner’s Blog – September 2008

Welcome Back!

Well we're all now back from our Summer hols and I hope that those of you who went on a residential experience either in the UK or further away, had a great time!

It has been as busy as ever and we have so much happening in the region between now and Christmas.  I had the pleasure during the Summer of representing the region at the Queens Garden Party at Buckingham Palace. It was a great experience and good to see other members of the movement representing Scouting from around the country.

I recently attended part of the Greater London South East Development Conference in Folkestone.  It was great to support the County Commissioner Ben Richardson and his team in putting together their strategy plan for the next five years.  I am confident from what I witnessed that we will see great things happening in GLSE.

It was great fun to join the 1st Uxbridge Scout Group at Gilwell Park for their Group's Centenary Camp! I  had the pleasure of cutting the cake as well as investing one of their new Cubs and Scouts whilst there.  Everyone seemed to be having a great time with lots of fun.  Congratulations to their leaders on putting on an excellent programme for the young people.

We have several important conferences in the coming months and early 2009 for our key managers in the Region. Many of our ACC's will be coming together on 8 November at Gilwell Park for the first of the new style 'Regional Development, Advice and Support Days.  This is an important opportunity to deliver some key information on developments happening both nationally and regionally.  We will also be holding two GSL Conferences on 7 February 2009 and 14 March 2009.  Details have been sent to all GSL's / Scouters in Charge and it is extremely important that as many of you as possible attend. Finally, our District Commissioners will be coming together on 28 March 2009 for a conference covering a range of topics relevant to their role.  Details of this event will be issued shortly however please ensure you have the date in your diary.

And last but not least, plans are coming together for our excellent entry in the London Lord Mayors Show on 8 November.  We have a really exciting and lively entry however I am not giving away too many secrets. There will be plenty of opportunities for those young people who would like to take part.

Well that's all from me for this month.  Once again, welcome back and happy Scouting!
