Recent News 16th October 2008- Over 50 teams of Scouts, aged 10-14, from every District in GLN, plus three teams from Devon, two from Epping Forest and two from Hertfordshire, enjoyed a superb day of adventure in the sun at last Saturday’s Chiltern 20 Challenge Hike.
8th October 2008- FIFTY years after passenger jets began regular transatlantic flights, air scouts had a go at recreating the trip on a restored flight simulator. 25th September 2008- Members of the Enfield District Scout Band, from Greater London North, will be representing Scouting in not one, but two massed bands in the Lord Mayor's Show in the City of London on the 8th of November. 2nd August 2008- What do you get when you take a very large field in Essex, add over 10,000 people and throw in a whole lot of excitement, adventure, fun and friendship? The answer’s easy – Essex International Jamboree (EIJ). 2nd August 2008- Scouts and Guides from around the world flocked to Downe Scout Activity Centre in South London, to be part of a ten day adventure called Campdowne. The event had the honour of being the first UK international Scout and Guide Camp of the new centenary of Scouting. Nearly 2000 participants from across the UK as well as over 20 countries around the world camped within the beautiful woodland site, less than 16 miles from the centre of London.
16th July 2008 On Wednesday evening Scouting In London's Young Spokespeople (YSPs) worked with BBC TV on a pre-record with TV presenter Kirsten O'Brien 16th July 2008- John May has become the first UK Scout elected to the World Scout Committee for over ten years. Results were announced today at the 38th World Scout Conference in Korea. 30th June 2008- Regenerate, which took place this weekend was the first event of its kind in which fourteen 16-25 yearolds had the chance to voice their opinions on how to improve Scouting in the London region. 25th June 2008- Rosie Reynolds, a 17-year old Scout from Eltham has been selected to attend the Global Young Leaders Conference, in the United State. 4th June 2008- Just 18 months after the launch of the Beaver Colony it was time to invest the first ever Cubs! 29th May 2008- A SCOUT group has its work cut out after pledging to carry out 100 activities in celebration of its centenary.
18th May 2008 - London Scouting gained 18 new Young Spokespeople in May, following the first London Scouting PR Training Course. 9th May 2008- Dave will go globetrotting Dave Brett, 18, of Chingford Mount, beat thousands of other people to become a contestant on Gap Year, which will be shown on the social networking website Bebo. 6th May 2008- HM Queen unveils Centenery Bronze The Queen, Patron of The Scout Association, has today unveiled a bronze of herself, specially commissioned as part of Scouting’s Centenary celebrations. Her Majesty met with Scouts from across London at Baden-Powell House who were helping to celebrate the success of Scouting’s Centenary and its largest growth in membership for 22 years. 21st April 2008- London Scout Groups Experience Largest Growth for 22 Years The Scout Association has today revealed the continuing popularity of the Movement, with 15,000 additional members joining across the UK in the last year. London has seen an overall increase of youth and adult members by 2.2 per cent, there are now over 41,254 youth and adult members across the capital, forming almost 1000 Groups of Beaver scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts and Explorer Scouts. 15th April 2008- Top Scouting Volunteers Recognised by London Entrepreneurs 24 of the top Scouting volunteers in London were recognised last night for the thousands of hours of their time they give to young people, at a special awards event in Docklands, London. 02/04/2008- Inner city Scouts begin Nepalese adventure Scouts from inner city Lewisham North, South London, have just embarked on the adventure of a lifetime. They will combine a three week expedition to Nepal with a community project to enhance the living conditions of Nepalese children. 16th March 2008- Scout Network Member in final two to take part in "The Gap Year" Chingford Scout Network member, Dave Brett has auditioned for the chance to take part in “The Gap Year”, an Endemol production which will see him travel the world for 6 months. 10th March 2008- Scouts Ski to Success in Swizerland Two London Scouts helped make up a team of six Explorer Scouts and Scout Network Members representing the United Kingdom came 4th in the first ever World Scout Winter Games, held at Kandersteg International Scout Centre in Switzerland. 22nd Febuary 2008- Special Awards in Recognition of Outstanding Service to Scouting Twenty four adult members across London Region have been recognised for their outstanding service to Scouting with a very special award, unique to Greater London Scout Region. 7th Febuary 2008-Scouts Launch Kids Outdoors Campaign in London The Scout Association today launches ‘KidsOutdoors’ - a campaign to promote outdoor adventure to more young people, their parents, youth leaders and schools across the UK. 15th January 2008- London Hosts launch of new Scout programme Last weekend’s Winter Camp held at Gilwell Park in the London region was the venue for the the launch of 40 new and modernised badges... 13th January 2008 - 2,500 Scouts and Explorers Descend on London for Winter Camp Last weekend’s saw the largest ever winter camp taking place in the United Kingdom in the Scout County of GLNE with nearly 3,000 Scouts and Explorer Scouts descending on Gilwell Park in Chingford London. ...
