Scouts 'fly' across Atlantic

FIFTY years after passenger jets began regular transatlantic flights, air scouts had a go at recreating the trip on a restored flight simulator.

The Comet jet cockpit simulator at the Scout Aviation Centre, Biggin Hill Airport, which has been out of action for over twenty years, was opened on October 4.

Air scouts recreated the first flight from New York to London to mark the event.

South London Scouts’ air adviser Ian Piper said: ”I’m sure the simulator will provide a great training experience for young people for years to come.”

The simulator will be used at the centre for scouts to try taking off from Biggin Hill Airport and fly over London to land at Heathrow which takes about 15 minutes.
