Scouts and Guides flock take part in Campdowne- The first international Scout and Guide Camp in the Scouting's new centnary.

Scouts and Guides from around the world flocked to Downe Scout Activity Centre in South London, to be part of a ten day adventure called Campdowne.  The event had the honour of being the first UK international Scout and Guide Camp of the new centenary of Scouting.  Nearly 2000 participants from across the UK as well as over 20 countries around the world camped within the beautiful woodland site, less than 16 miles from the centre of London.

During the course of the 10 day event, the Scouts and Guides took part in over 50 different fun and adventurous activities.  One of the highlights of Campdowne was when everybody created a brand new Guinness world record by making the World's Largest Scout scarf.

Chloe Marriott, a 16 year old Explorer Scout from South-East London said "I had been looking forward to Campdowne for ages.  I tried out a load of new exciting activities during the 10 days whilst camping in the woods.  I loved riding in a hovercraft, doing grass slope sledging and trying out the new high ropes course.  I went dancing to a live band in the woods and met up with Scouts from other countries and learning about how they live."

Meanwhile, Phil Day, Campdowne organiser said "Being a Scout is all about adventure, that's why Scouting is a million times bigger than when it started.  It has grown from twenty young people camping on Brownsea Island to 28 million around the world today.  We worked on this year's event for four years to make sure that the young people had the time of their lives.  Of course, none of this would have been possible without the support and leadership of the huge numbers of adults who gave up their time and enjoyed the same amount of fun, challenge and adventure".
