Young Spokes People in roundtable for BBC TV

On Wednesday evening Scouting In London's Young Spokespeople (YSPs) worked with BBC TV on a pre-record with TV presenter Kirsten O'Brien.

As Kirsten she launches herself into primetime television after 12 years in children's programming. She is looking into the perceptions of beauty and wanted to talk to young people and get their views.

Kirsten and the YSPs spoke about positive roll models. The discussion reinforced the findings of The Scout Association's report that came out at the beginning of last year on what makes young people thrive, and the following key messages came across:

Young people express highly positive attitudes towards family life

Teen stereotypes are wrong and misleading and are only reflective of the minority

Despite recent criticism and the pressures of modern life, young people have positive self-esteem

Making a difference to the environment is a priority and teenagers have strong social conscience.

All of our YSPs were excellent, and spoke positively. They were meant to have run for an hour, but the producer was so impressed that she gave them an extra 20 minutes.

The programme will go out on BBC TV sometime in the autumn.
