London Scouting gained 18 new Young Spokespeople in May, following the first London Scouting PR Training Course.

Held in Camden, City and Islington Scout Centre, the course brought together Explorers and older Scouts from North London who had done something exciting in Scouting and wanted to learn how to get their story into the media.

During the day's workshop, they learnt the basics of successful PR, and then took part in several practice TV, radio and press interviews.

In parallel, 8 Media Development Managers and ACC (Communications) were taking part in their own workshop to learn how to write press releases and then pitch the story to local media.

At the end of the day, the new YSPs and MDMs came together to discuss how to get the best press coverage for future Scouting stories.

Supported by experienced Young Spokespeople from the Jamboree and the Gilwell PR team, the day was a huge success and the participants left Islington buzzing and ready to share their enjoyment of Scouting with the rest of London.

A further London Scouting PR Training Course is now being planned for the autumn in South London.
